![]() Kat Von D Backstage Bambi Studded Kiss Lipstick For someone who doesn’t mind reapplication and prefers to have a really comfortable-to-wear formula on, this might not be the one. In general, I think those that are really after long-wearing, ultra-matte lip color, it may still be a very interesting formula. It is more forgiving than I expected, though. If you have drier lips that have flakes/cracks, the formula can catch on them. ![]() It wasn’t drying over time, and it doesn’t feel too clingy (it feels less clingy than you’d expect given the matte quality). This particular shade wasn’t tacky, so by pressing and rubbing lips together, I was able to ease most of the color back into place so that it was still wearable for another two hours. It took six and a half hours before the color started to have any visible signs of breaking down, and after eight hours of wear, there was slight fading along the center of the lips and some of the color had pulled into lip lines. The color, however, did apply evenly overall. The consistency was slightly creamier, so it didn’t tug or drag quite as much on the lips, but it doesn’t just glide over the lips smoothly. This performed a lot better than Coven, luckily. Make Up For Ever #37 (P, $19.00) is darker, pinker, less matte. Hourglass Muse (P, $28.00) is more orange. Marc Jacobs Beauty Shout (138) (LE, $30.00) is darker, pinker, less matte. Bite Beauty Crush (P, $28.00) is brighter, less matte. Marc Jacobs Beauty Wham (604) (P, $28.00) is pinker, less matte. Kat Von D L’Ecole des Femmes Studded Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “matte bright coral pink.” It’s a pink-coral with warm undertones and an ultra matte finish. ![]() Kat Von D L’Ecole des Femmes Studded Kiss Lipstick So far, I feel like there’s some variation in quality in the range, depending on color and finish, but I’ll keep working my way through ‘em and posting reviews so we can find out together. It’s far cry from “bold color, 10-hour wear, and luxe comfort,” as described. It lasted for six hours on me before it was noticeably faded in the center, and it was fairly drying over time. ![]() I could easily see this catching on any dryness or imperfections on the lips, and it would be imperative to exfoliate prior to application as it is unforgiving. Even on my arm, when I was swatching, it was difficult to drag across the skin, and it didn’t seem to like being layered, as the product would clump in places. It was the first of the matte finish shades I tried, so fingers crossed some of the other hues are better quality! The consistency was dry and stiff, so the lipstick dragged and tugged on the lips during application, which led to a rather uneven appearance. This shade was a lot less impressive compared to the other two shades I’ve reviewed so far. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Rollergirl (P, $18.00) Illamasqua Posture (P, $24.00) is pinker, lighter. Melt Cosmetics By Starlight (P, $19.00) is much, much darker. Kat Von D Coven Studded Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “matte lavender.” It’s a light-medium, cool-toned lavender purple with a matte finish. It was neither drying nor hydrating, and the color lasted for nine hours (including through a meal). It’s a shade that I would likely apply with a lip brush, because it does seem to given a slightly rougher edge, rather than a really crisp one, when applied directly from the tube. Sometimes, deeper shades like this can look splotchy or sheer applied, but this went on much more smoothly, though not perfectly. ![]() It had rich, opaque color coverage that applied fairly well and evenly. The texture of this was lightly creamy–the creamiest of all the shades I’ve swatched–and doesn’t tug or pull at the lip. This color is off-the-charts awesome, if you can get behind non-traditional lip colors! It’s such a powerful color on–there’s just something about the richness and depth of it that makes it more wearable than you’d think. It’s more like a mix of Illamasqua Kontrol (P, $24.00) and Illamasqua Disciple (P, $24.00) mixed together, as the latter is lighter and bluer. This is the Star Studded Eyeshadow Book and, like most of KVD‘s holiday releases, it’s fairly enormous! I didn’t buy it at the time, but I picked it up at a swap a long while ago and I’m only getting around to swatching it now.Kat Von D Poe Studded Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “shimmery navy.” It’s a deep, dark navy blue with a slight purple tint and fine, violet and midnight blue shimmer. If you don’t recognize this palette, don’t get too excited because it was the 2014 holiday release for Kat Von D. ![]()
